Small cutting plates are 3/16 of an inch whereas the large plates are ½ inch. The determine how fine or coarse your finished turkey, chicken, pork, beef, vegetables, etc. will be.

For the electric grinders, they are faster and more efficient as compared to manual meat grinders because they have a powerful motor attached. The mode of operation of electric grinders is similar to a hand grinder and includes cutting plates as well, which determine how fine or coarse the finished meat or any other product will be after it’s been ground. 3/16, ¼, and ½ inch grinding plates are the most common sizes and enable you to attain your desired coarseness by changing the plates. Electric grinders can increase the amount of meat that can be ground without increasing the effort.

In our review of the best meat grinders, the LEM Products #10 is the only manual meat grinder while the rest of the meat grinders are electrically powered.

Features to Consider

Power

The power of meat grinders ranges greatly. The lowest powered ones (300 to 500 Watts) are suitable for use by individuals who do not necessarily need to grind high volumes of products. These include the LEM W780A (500W), Sunmile SM-G33(400W), Kitchener, (500W) and the Cuisinart MG-100 (300W).

The medium and high-powered grinders (between 1,000 to 2,000 Watts) on the other hand are recommended for people who need intermediate and commercial use. The STX Turboforce II (2000W), Weston 10-3201-W (1500W), Weston 10-2201-W (1.5HP, 1200W) and the Betitay (1800W) fall in this category.

It is important to consider the power output of the grinder because you might end up choosing an overpowered device that will be much more than you need. On the other hand, you could be confronted with a device that’s not powerful enough for the tasks that you have in mind.

Capacity

There are different capacities on the market for meat grinders. Generally, the capacities of meat grinders are measured in pounds (lbs.) per hour or minutes. Depending on your needs, you should select a meat grinder with a grinding ability that best suits your needs. For instance, if you have a large family or often entertain many guests, you should select a meat grinder with the highest possible grinding ability as it will operate faster and save you time to do other things.

The Weston 10-3201-W with a grinding capacity of 12-18 lbs. per minute has the highest grinding capacity, which makes it suitable for commercial purposes. The STX Turboforce II and STX-3000-TF have medium-ranged grinding capacities of 175 to 225 lbs. per hour.

Versatility

Besides the meat grinder’s power, opt for a machine that packs in a lot of versatility. Most manufacturer’s offer multi-functional devices which not only grind meat, but also cut vegetables and make sausages. The STX-3000-TF packs in a lot of versatility for multi-functional usage for heavy-duty users, just as the Betitay Electric Meat Grinder, but the latter is for users who don’t grind frequently and only grind meat in small batches. However, always make your choice according to your needs and what you want to do with your machine.

Accessories

The intended use for the grinder is what should determine the choice of your accessories. Generally, most meat grinder models will be delivered with the following accessories: three grids, a blade, a pusher, sausage kit(s) and/or kibbe attachment.
However, some models can be equipped with other accessories, including a tray, burger kit or a complete kit for sausages and kibbes. The kibbe attachment is a useful accessory as it allows you to make Middle-Eastern dishes. Generally, sausage attachments are one of the most common attachments included with a grinder. The size of the attachments is also important to consider.

Even if you don’t think you’ll be needing all the accessories at the moment, choosing a model with many accessories does make more sense. All the meat grinders in this best meat grinders review come with useful accessories, but the STX-3000-TF has it all!

Robustness

Meat grinding machines made of heavy-duty metals and stainless steel are the most powerful. If possible, always go for these models as they are more resistant to corrosion and damage. However, you should also bear in mind that even if the chopper is made of metal or stainless steel, it can be delivered with plastic accessories. If so, always go for ABS plastic as this type of plastic is denser, more robust and is also hypoallergenic and non-toxic.

Besides, always make sure that the material build is food grade and it doesn’t have components that are likely to compromise the food quality. The LEM W780A, Homeleader K-18-026, and the STX 3000-TF are among the electric meat grinders that are ETL Certified and have the Food Grade Component.

For robustness, our overall best meat grinder, the STX Turboforce II “Platinum” packs in all the robustness than you will ever find in a meat grinder. The STX-3000-TF is also robust for a frequent and a heavy-duty meat grinder.

Circuit Protection/Overheating

Always select models that have been listed by the manufacturer to have protection against overheating and a circuit breaker to protect it from a power surge. This will ensure you work safely and have your grinder with you for years.

The STX Turboforce II, Weston 10-3201, LEM W780A, STX 3000-TF, and the Sunmile SM-G33 are some of the electric grinders which come with this feature.

Warranty and customers’ support

Features like the product warranty and after-sales support are also important to keep in mind. The Homeleader K-18-026 is one of the electric meat grinders offering a 30-day money-back guarantee, 12-month replacement warranty, and lifetime support guarantee.

Ergonomics

In terms of ergonomics, go for a meat grinding machine that’s easy to handle. Its basic operation, along with its assembly and its disassembly must be simple to perform, even for the first-timers. Also, it must be convenient to fill and clean. The Homeleader K18-026, Betitay Electric Meat Grinder and Sunmile SM-G33 have it all if you’re in search of an ergonomic electric meat grinder.

Besides, machines with an automatic shutdown system are more ergonomic and safer for users who tend to forget to turn off their electrical appliances after use. For ease of use, prioritize models that have a push-button with a reverse function, multiple blades & grinding plates and a large grinding tray. The STX Turboforce II and Weston 10-3201-W are your best shot encompassing all these features!

The Size of the Grid

The size of the grid refers to the diameter of the holes that you need depending on the preparation to be made. The size is expressed in millimeters or inches and varies from 3mm for very fine, to 20 mm for fat and the first passage of meat. Depending on your needs, you will know the grid size to choose.

Ease of Cleaning

Ease of cleaning is also an important feature to consider because if the machine isn’t properly cleaned, it tends to fail quickly. Whenever possible, always go for the models that are easy to clean and come with dishwasher safe parts and accessories. The Sunmile SM-G33 and LEM W780A offer ease of assembly and disassembly, which make favorites if you’re looking for an electric meat grinder that’s easy to clean! The Betitay electric meat grinder is also one of the electric meat grinders with number of dishwasher safe parts.

If there’s no mention of ease of cleaning by the manufacturer, opt for stainless steel models as stainless steel is easier to maintain and wash, just like the Gourmia GMG525.

Q: How Often Will I Use the Grinder?

A: The more often you want to use the unit, the more powerful of a motor you will need. Consider how often the grinder will be used. 1. Does the STX Turboforce II “Platinum” can grind chicken bones? It’s highly rated with a lot of features and it looks quite sturdy. It can be a nice bargain!

    • Thank you for your question, Paul! This grinder can handle soft bones, such as chicken, quail and rabbit. Hard bones such as beef, pork, turkey, lamb etc. are not able to be processed by this machine. Remember that bones can’t be processed themselves and should be incorporated with meat to pass through the grinding head.
